Co-owning a multi-state small business with her husband, Judge Flood has handled diverse business issues pertaining to contract, administrative, healthcare, and employment law. Shifting to an advisory role in recent years, she focuses on refining policies guiding the hiring, training, supervision, and well-being of team members. She has also served as advisory counsel for several nonprofit organizations.

Among numerous public service activities, Judge Flood brings a heart for youth and a love for horses to her work with Corral, a “faith-motivated nonprofit that equips adolescent girls in high-risk situations through a long-term, holistic program of equine therapy and education.” Her committee work centers on strengthening the organizational foundation through her legal and human resources background. She has also served on the Bench and Bar Committee for the Wake County Bar Association and Tenth Judicial District Bar.

Judge Flood is the daughter of John M. Tate, from Waynesville, and Dorothy Mills Tate, from Richlands. After growing up in Orlando, Florida, and several relocations for professional and educational endeavors, she and her family have called North Carolina home since 2003. Judge Flood and her husband, Tim, have four adult sons and daughters-in-law, as well as grandchildren.
